    TOKORIKI ISLAND RESORT SUPPORTS YANUYA FOOD FOREST & ISLAND REFORESTATION PROJECT

    The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project administered by Robert Ring, General Manager of Tokoriki Island Resort in partnership with Mamanuca Environmental Society (MES), Tourism Fiji, Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Agriculture was recently sanctioned by the Taukei Yanuya, Akuila Lati of Yanuya Island and Taukei Motu Tubutubu Nailovolovo of Tavua Island.

    The inaugural Food Forest planting event was held on Friday 29 November 2024 on Yanuya Island at the Namamanuca Primary Village School where the children participated in planting food bearing seedlings around the school and timber seedlings around the island’s perimeter to secure future food and income for the village.

    This special event was attended by the Taukei Yanuya Akuila Lati, Marica Vakacola from
    the Mamanuca Environment Society & Sunishma Singh, Tourism Fiji Sustainability Manager who all planted a tree to celebrate this wonderful project. Ministry of Agriculture Senior Technical Assistant Solomoni Nagaunavou and Ministry of Education Senior Education Officer Nadroga/Navosa Lemeki Ratudamu also contributed to this project.

    Vinaka vakalevu to the Ministry of Forestry Acting Director West Setareki Namuloilagi for donating 200 teak seedlings and also Group Marketing Manager Akash Narsay of Jacks Fiji for donating 400 vesi seedlings to start the Reforestation Project. Founder of Eco Grow Fiji Mesake Cataki generously donated his organic liquid fertilizer to the school’s Headmaster Suliasi Vetakula.

    The village of Yanuya and nearby Tavua have commenced planting the vesi and teak seedlings on the foot hills of the islands. Landowners are preparing more planting sites to maintain this Reforestation Project.

    Tokoriki’s kitchen team collect pawpaw, watermelon & pumpkin seeds from prep stations for the
    resort’s landscape team to propagate for the project. The kitchen team also simmer trimmings of banana, pineapple & green vegetables for the resort’s Landscape Manager Samisoni Latui to use as fertilizer.

    Tokoriki Island Resort conriubutes 2 seedlings per reservation to support the Yanuya Island Food Forest & Reforestation Project. The resort offers Village & School visits twice a week for guests enjoy this new eco-friendly sustainable project.
