Every year for World’s Best Awards Survey T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Over 186,000 T+L readers completed the 2024 survey. A total of more than 700,000 votes were cast across over 8,700 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).
For this 29th edition of the awards, hundreds of thousands of votes were cast in an extensive survey that was open Oct. 23, 2023, through Feb. 26, 2024 via a secure website that was maintained and monitored by our research partner, Proof Insights. Respondents had the option to rate airlines, airports, car-rental companies, cities, cruise ships, destination spas, hotels, hotel brands, inns in the U.S., islands, luxury villa rental companies, safari outfitters, tour operators, trains, and U.S. national parks. The votes were based on a number of characteristics for which they could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.
Hotels were classified as either resort hotel, city hotel, inn, or safari lodge based on their location and amenities, and they were specifically rated on the below critea:
- Rooms/facilities
- Location
- Service
- Food
- Value
What Readers Loved
In a part of the world with seemingly endless resort options, what makes a hotel stand out from the crowd? According to our readers described the winning property, Tokoriki Island Resort, by saying, “This place created such a feeling of family and comfort, I actually cried when we had to leave.” (They weren’t the only reader who said they cried upon departure.)
One thing makes Tokoriki Island Resort different from the rest of the winners on this list: it’s adults-only. The resort prides itself on creating a romantic atmosphere, with things like couples spa treatments, in-villa floating breakfast, and a private island picnic. “Tokoriki was the ideal location for our honeymoon,” one reader wrote. “We will be back for our anniversary soon!” Other offerings include snorkeling and scuba diving, basket weaving, traditional kava ceremonies (the national drink of Fiji), and various guided excursions, such as a tour of the island where the movie “Cast Away” was filmed. But luckily, you can also experience all of the remoteness and seclusion of the movie without stepping away from the beachfront infinity pool.
